A really long long time ago when the Jedi Order was first forming, one branch exploring how the Force gravitates around living beings was created. One Jedi, Jedi Socrates, was convinced feelings were the key. To ethically experiment on his hypothesis Socrates tasked the most brilliant engineers of the time to build droids and program them with feelings. A daunting task to be sure with little success. But this is the story of one hopeful experiment...
After traveling a-far to pick-up his friend and colleague Jedi Master Sigmund, they came upon a space capsule adrift along their route(how it got there in the past is another story for another time!). Its lone occupant was a cryogenically frozen human from another time far far away. Stamped on the side of said tube were the words, "Jed I. Clampett wake me when y'all got a cure for tumors.". The Jedi pair uploaded Jed's brain into one of engineer Suune's positronic brains equipped with perfected human emotions of joy, sorrow, and shame, then with Jedi Sigmunds curiosity chip giving this unique replica droid the capacity to learn and Jed's quirky personality, Socraties and Sigmund believed they came as close as ever to genuine "feelings". Yet, the Force did not surround this being. The project was abandoned and no further research has taken place. Long after old age had taken the lives of those working on the hypothesis, only Jed lived on and his creation was kept a secret... the only hope that perhaps the Force could be learned. Jed had been trained in the Jedi arts and his loyalty to the Order and his creators has served the Order well for many years and many missions. Jed guards his secret in order to avoid the great shame he would feel if the order found out he actually wasn't Force sensitive.
